Statewide Status Codes

S: = Specimen or photograph currently located.
s: = Specimen or photograph not currently located.
-: = Verified sight record only.
:1, 2, 3, etc. = Number of records in the database
:N = Numerous records- more than 20.

Latilong maps Include IBRC accepted Rare Bird Reports, specimens, photos, historical records, and verified sight records. Records not accepted by the IBRC as likely escapees or mis-identified are not included.

Map Color Codes

March-November Status

Red = B-Breeding Confirmed.
Green = b-Breeding Suspected.
Purple = t-Transient or Present , no breeding evidence.

December-February Status

Blue = W-Overwintered (all 3 months).
Pink = w-Winter Visitor present in 1 or 2 months.

Light Colors = Latilong has a sight record of a review species, but no Rare Bird Report has been submitted to IBRC.

Yellow = No records of the species in the Latilong during that season.

Breeding Criteria

Confirmed evidence of breeding must include at least one of the following:

•Nest with young seen or heard.
•Examined specimen of nestling
•Nest with viable egg(s).
•Fledgling(s) (young away from the nest but without adult-sized flight feathers).
•Occupied nest (adults regularly entering and leaving a nest).
•Adults attending young (adults carrying fecal sacs or food for young).
•Recently used nest with eggshells (must be in good condition and eggshells identifiable).

Suspected/Circumstantial evidence of breeding must include at least one of the following:

•Physiological evidence (vascularized brood patch, cloacal protuberance, egg in oviduct).
•Singing male or other territorial defense.
•Courtship behaviour or copulation.
•Distraction display, agitated behaviour, or anxiety calls from adults.
•Nest building.
•Adults visiting a probable nest site.
•Pair observed in suitable habitat in breeding season.

If a member of the species has been noted in the Latilong but no evidence of breeding has been reported (perhaps the species is a migrant, vagrant, or non-breeding resident there), then the latilong is colored Purple.

Wintering Criteria

Overwintering for a species requires that it be recorded once in December, once in January, and once in February of the same season for that latilong.

Winter records are winter visitors, late fall stragglers, and early spring arrivers from December 1 to February 29.
