RE: [IBLE] changing IBLE

The central valley (California) email listserve centralvalleybirds@groups.io
uses groups.io and it seem to work similarly to the yahoo group.

I’m not sure what the transition would involve for administrators and for
members.

I clicked on the link in Larry Arnold’s posting and https://groups.io looks
like a good fit for IBLE. And if it costs money, I’d be willing to chip in
to keep the community going. If clicking on the link doesn’t work, go to

First, although the number of posts have declined as Brian mentioned, I
still want this group. If Yahoo Groups won’t work for us anymore, we can
find something else, and I’m researching other options right now. If anyone
has input on various free group options, let me know. Also let me know if
there are specific features you really value in a group like this, beyond
the ability to send and receive email and archive old messages.

Sad info re: the end of Yahoo Groups which will affect IBLE. Sounds like as
of this coming Mon, Oct 21 Yahoo Groups will be functionally over. I’m not
really into other social media, don’t have a Facebook acct & not a “techie”.
Even though, it seems posts to IBLE have somewhat decreased over the years,
there have remained those providing good birding info that has certainly
helped me in my observations.

Sure has been a good run & I hope a similar Idaho Birding forum takes the
place of IBLE. From my perspective, I’ve enjoyed the contact with others
through IBLE, having even met fellow birders in person, & hope to find all
again “in the ether” on another platform.

[IBLE] Re: ?? IBLE to groups.io

Cliff,

I hadn’t heard of this change yet – do you want to get with me to figure out how to proceed, and if we need to be looking at a different platform for IBLE?

For IBLE – I’m also against Facebook, so I don’t foresee it going there any time soon! 🙂

I visit family a few times a year in Boise so I always keep up on the list. I am sure none of you have met me.

The list for central Oregon switched to Groups.io perhaps a year ago. Who ever manages switching over IBLE might want to check on how archives get switched so old news is not lost. For our list, the list administrator had to go through some hoops and maybe backed up some archives somewhere else and then put them in, general idea. I don’t know any specifics, as I am not a techie, but if a person wants to take some iniative with IBLE on it, I could give them the email for our list administrator just in case there is value in discussing the change.
