Is anyone with techie skills discussing this? because several (many?) of us are not willing to play on FB……..

one thing we did c. 15 yrs ago when Audubon pulled the plug on our local Audubon chapter birding listserv… we each maintained a smallish list of email contacts for discussing birds locally, but when we went down that path we ended up with maybe ten local discussion groups – just in western Colorado – and that wasn’t serving us very well, so someone with savvy created a larger discussion group, a yahoogroup….

Just wanted to share blue jay sightings from the Salmon area. I’ve had up
to 4 individuals at my feeders since 1 October. Two to four birds have been
present daily the last 6 days feeding on black oil sunflower seeds at the
feeders and on the ground below. Several other blue jay sightings have been
submitted to eBird from this area the last couple weeks. They have also
been recently observed at feeders in Challis, ID. Quite the show!

Bird migration is fascinating. Amazing what a few miles difference will reveal. Excellent report, Patty! Glad to hear somebody is seeing good numbers of fall migrants.

We had a bumper crop of BH Grosbeaks this summer, but all pulled out sev wks ago, as well as, hummingbirds. Finally, just emptied my nectar feeders, as was just feeding yellowjackets! After a 2nd wasp sting, had enough! Along the Snake, west of town, getting our winter residents: Juncos, Townsend’s Solitaires, Spotted Towhees & a few Robins. Only fall ones I’ve seen are a handful of Yellow-rumped Warblers & RC Kinglets.

Wonder if the fall migrants follow river/stream corridors? And maybe the Blackfoot just held more food/interest than the Snake this year. We need an ISU Ornithology grad student!
