We’re getting loonier every day. In addition to the 3 at Veteran’s, there was a solo at Silver Lake today. While Silver Lake is surrounded by houses and apartments, it is plenty big for a take-off.

The “ponds” at Veterans Memorial and Esther Simplot Park are more lake than pond.
Parkcenter Pond is not as big as those but it is larger than the one the COLO was on last year at Riverside Park in Garden City that one had several monofilament tangles. It was eventually decided the pond was to short with high trees on each end an it was captured and taken to Lake Lowell and released there.
I am not a Loon expert by any means so do not know how much room they need.
I downloaded the images from Parkcenter Pond but have not processed the raw images but I saw in Photo Mechanic when I was culling that one of the loons had monofilament line hanging out of it’s beak and there was a barrel swivel hanging from that.

We counted 19 COLOs on Black Canyon reservoir last night (and more than likely missed a few); a pod of 12 and then scattered pairs among 75 or so WEGR and a large flock of RUDUs.

Just got back from walking to and from my dentist past Parkcenter Pond and there are 3 Common Loons on the pond.
I went to Veterans Memorial Saturday to photograph the 3 Common Loons there, photos attached.
Hummingbirds in Pocatello
The first hummingbird of the year was seen at my home in the hills east of Pocatello. Likely a Broad-Tailed. This is right about when they normally return.

The iridescence on turkeys is quite stunning in the right light. And they’re fun to watch and sometimes funny in interaction with others.

I had a male Bobwhite visit my yard here in the North End a few years ago. What tipped me off? I heard the distinctive “Bob-white!” and turned to my friend, “That sounds just like a Bobwhite, how can that be?” Learned that there were escapees. Hadn’t heard one since living in Michigan decades ago. Sure enough. Here’s a shot I took of him sitting on my neighbor’s car, and then later, when it wandered into my backyard and onto the trellis.
