One Loon still present at 7:55. 😊 The other may have simply moved ponds.

We begin our annual watch for the loons here in Gem County in late winter. Their arrival excites this former MN household as well. There were six tonight, on HWY 52 between Black Canyon Park and Triangle Park, visible from the Longhollow Creek pullover. And I believe there were sightings last week at Sawyer’s pond and Dick Knox ponds. No vocalizations yet… that would be asking too much.

Lynda, I was at Ester Simplot Water Park. Park in the lot closest to the river by the restrooms. Walk down the path going west to Veteran’s Pond, the closest pond to the river. There were two there as late as 3:00 when Tom saw them (message below).

Yes, that is Veteran’s pond. The two were hanging out between the center and east side of the pond.

Is that at Veteran’s Park? I see three ponds in that area near/between the Vet. park and Ester Simplot.

Loons at 3 PM. Extra bonus attraction included. Large numbers of Yellow-rumped warblers, also.

Two Loons here at 1:54 pm. Easy to spit. As a former resident of MN, it’s a thrilling site.
