You can see it from the entrance to Deer Flat NWR Visitor’s Center (in front of the gate), although there is still a little bit of light pollution from Nampa-Caldwell.  Watch out for people parked along the shoulders of Indiana Avenue, tho.  I haven’t tried it, but seems the pass on 55 above Horseshoe Bend would be a good option.  Almost anywhere in Owyhee County, except in the Snake River Canyon, or the eastern half of Canyon County (east of Caldwell or south of Nampa and Caldwell) would likely be good as well.

Sorry about the blank message before. I WAS going to say that there’s good viewing at the top of Horizon Drive (O’Farrell turns into Horizon). Turn around when you get to the top and park your car next to the first lane on the right. I just walked down the lane and onto the foothills path, and there it was, just below the big dipper at 11:00 p.m. Such a delight.

I spend the winters in Tucson, AZ. While there I have had the opportunity to get involved in many Tucson Audubon events. Lately, they have started sponsoring a regular series of online classes on a wide range of topics. One recent class was presented by the eBird reviewers for the Southeast Arizona region.
