I fit in some birding while traveling from Moscow to Coeur d’Alene,
Saturday. At Lake Chatcolet in Heyburn State Park I had one RED-THROATED
LOON with 3 PACIFIC LOONS, a late American White Pelican, and a Eurasian
Wigeon. A SWAMP SPARROW was calling near the nearby Plummer Marsh
Boardwalk. On Harlow Point Road alongside Harrison Slough, at the CDA River
delta I had a very late COMMON YELLOWTHROAT (only the second November
record in eBird for Idaho) and a N. Pygmy-owl.

Hi Robert,My mother and I went to see the bird and saw it a couple of times by the front door. We first spotted it at 2:30, and it showed up by itself. The second time was at 2:50 with a few Oregon dark-eyed juncos.Hope this helps. Good luck!Kristin Araki

Tinnitus is my old challenge … started in 1965 when I shot out my high frequency hearing in 3 days. The audiologists have told me I have learned to “hear around it” to a degree and the new hearing aids have helped some also.

Ken, I forgot about my other “new” challenge re birding by ear…. tinnitus is screaming at me, usually worse in afternoons
without Missy’s ears, I’d experience fewer (if any) waxwings, creepers, and Golden-crowned Kinglets

The background noise is still and issue but at least with my new hearing aides I can hear a Song Sparrow for the first time since 1965.

My biggest challenge is trying to figure out what that new sound is, somebodies loud car radio a half mile away or a bird 🙂

Missy and I spent many hours in the canyon today with no cell phone coverage, and just now have email to report that we got a brief look at the Magnolia at about 1105 hrs in trees just below the restroom parking area……..

in the ambient light and viewing angle that we had, two features stood out – broad dark undertail band and complete/narrow eyering ; wing bars were barely visible to us. Behaviorally, this warbler did not appear to forage, move around nor fly like a yellow-rumped, of which there were several in the area.

Earlier at Jay and Heidi’s we had dipped on the Ovenbird, and since that was about our last yard bird in Colorado before moving here, we wondered if Jay and Heidi will be moving soon? 😉

Hi all,
Spent over 2 hours this morning looking but no luck. It was “birdier” closer to Sandy Point, where the paved walking trail enters the south end of the park. All the birds that were reported hanging out with the Magnolia were there but couldn’t find the rare visitor. Quite a few birders out, didn’t hear of anyone sighting the Magnolia today. Good luck to those searching. Made a quick check at Foote Park as well.

The Ovenbird appeared at 5:20 tonight. I was watching for over an hour when
it made a brief appearance before flying back up into the Spruce. As Heidi
and Jay mentioned, best spot to look for bird is to view from your car
parked on either side of their driveway.
