Does anyone know if the birds were seen at the nest hole today (Saturday) or if they have fledged?
Thanks,

Larry-
Great to read your reference to Al Larson.
I got to know Al and Hilda in the early 80s after moving to Boise and
joining Golden Eagle Audubon where they served in many capacities.
Here is one fun fact from that era that speaks to their multi-faceted
efforts for birds and those of us who love them: they ran a small but
thriving business selling seed for bird feeders, with profits going to
Audubon. One of their offerings which was a first for most if not all of us
was black oil sunflower seed.

I kept hearing a squeaky toy.
And when my eyes popped open at 0430 hrs, I was still hearing it…
Turns out it was one of my Screech Buddies, as in WESO =)
Wow, they do a wonderful job at keeping our mouse population in check. maybe even better / more efficient / than a cat would do?
We’ve been wearing hard hats lately whilst outside doing yard “work” as a cautionary measure because of all these chipity zippy hummingbirds 😉 still only Black-chins here in west Boise…..
Nice cloudy but humid day in River City,
Larry and Missy
Fantastic! Well, then a warm hello to Al, and a big thank you for your wonderful example to all birders and conservationists! (And congrats on still making a difference at 97! Respect!). Jonathan

Al has been a member of IBLE for a very long time. He is a lurker and rarely posts. And yes he is 97.
Al should be finishing up with monitoring his bluebird boxes. He usually finishes up in early to mid August.

Old friend of mine, back in my early days of birding with my dad. He had a Black-billed Cuckoo that hung around his property at least a couple of summers. He could imitate it perfectly and call it in. Al was very involved in the Audubon society. I doubt he ever was associated with IBLE. Haven’t seen him since before his wife Hilda passed away. Lovely people. Thx for the quick memory jog! Jonathan, HSB
