The other day there were 13 young birds near the lower dam. 12 were Clark’s grebes. It’s almost mid September. I’m surprised the birds are still this young.

Why I watch birds
This is from Lake Lowell, by the dam, yesterday. A mixed flock of Western and Clark grebes. Quite a few “youngsters”, a couple of which were riding on their mom’s back. I have
seen the water walking display in the past, but this is the first time I could capture it. It just makes me smile and that is good enough reason to put in the effort.
