The book I mentioned the other day states that tyrant flycatchers have been
known to eat fruit .when I was still hiking in the winter along the snake
river i have seen swarms of gnats go figure

I know – I wonder the same thing – I think my Say’s Phoebe stays around my house year round…for several years now…just when I think it’s gone, it pops up again…

I’m not sure what they eat in the dead of winter, but I have seen Say’s Phoebes at Esther Simplot Park and Les Bois race track throughout the winter in past years. Last week I was biking under the Veterans Parkway bridge when I encountered one sitting on the railing of the greenbelt path. They are always a pleasant surprise.

I saw one this past weekend off Frozen Dog Rd here in Gem County. I have pictures of one perched on our porch rail in the dead of winter a few years back. Guess they didn’t get the memo.
