I saw them twice but including after they had shot the Grebes. It has been so many years since I was hunting with a gun I did not even know Grebes were protected.  64 years ago my Grandfather “divers” like coots were not good to eat so to never shoot one so I ignored them all of my hunting career. As I said earlier I did not know Grebes were not legal to shoot until it was mentioned during this thread. I do not have photos, names or anything else, I believe the vehicle was red.

FWIW, the rules are the same anywhere in the country, grebes are
protected. They can’t put up signs at every location where hunting
is legal listing game species. It’s up to the individual to learn
what is, and isn’t, legal to kill. I’ve certainly seen my share of
this type of violation and it usually works for me if I talk to
them and let them know they’re breaking the law. In my experience
it’s usually kids and they’re usually unaware they are violating
the regulations. Adults usually do know and don’t care – those are
the ones I’ll report to Fish and Game.

That’s interesting Ken about the grebes they say
use meat in jerky  the 2 I ran into said they do same with coots
they were about 18 or older sounds they didn’t know illegal on
grebes this needs to be reported fish&game should at least
put up signs & article in newspaper

couple of Eared Grebes to float in with the wind they
found out it was not wadable where they were. I told them
the birds were not very good to eat but they said they
ground them up for sausage and jerky.

I agree, grebe’s are protected under the non-game migratory bird species act, these “hunters” need to be reported to IDF&G, And to be be honest, they probably have been doing this for years. Grind them up for sausage, give me a break! Citizens Against Poaching # 800-632-5999
