Re: [IBLE] Brant present

Of course, we have no idea what this bird will do, or when, but IF it’s any consolation………
The 1997 Brant at Ann Morrison Park has ebird entries from 15 Nov thru 20 Dec, and this assumes they were all the same little beastie

IOW it *could* stick around for awhile, eh? ja? =)

Optimistically speaking,
LA

Brant – yes!
Scanned two flocks of Canadas along State – 40 birds in the center then a group of 50 just west. (Nr Vistor’s Parking area.) No Brant, but checked behind the building where there were another approx. 40 Canada Geese partly on the asphalt, partly on much smaller (compared to front) grassy area. And there it was! (Thanks Marcia Lyons.)

It took off on its own (despite our care to not disturb it or the other geese), looped around and then joined the aforementioned group of 40 right along State St.

Great bird that I love from the coast but never thought I’d see in Idaho! Thanks for the finders and others from yesterday who posted on eBird.

nah……. conniptions were short-lived because Missy and I found the Brant hanging in / grazing / with troops of CANG on the grassy grounds of Idaho Transp Dept, just after talking on phone with you yesterday afternoon, yeehah
BTW that’s a word – conniptions – I haven’t thought about or heard in years……..

NICE FIND, toppermost bird Mr. Tom & Mrs. Zarate, sincere thx for your discussions, eh?

This bird was in the back pond of Esther Simplot when I was on my way home… I was looking for the recent White-fronted Goose when I saw this dark, almost black, goose. When Sandra sent me her first photo, I immediately realized that we were talking about the same bird. And I can honestly say that I have NEVER seen a Brant along the Boise River in all my biking adventures. Way cool. (Unfortunately, the bird took off upriver while I was watching it.)

Tom McCabe, Boise

BTW, Larry Arnold is currently going through conniptions because he missed this bird. Somehow I think I know where he’ll be hanging out tomorrow. 😉

Hi fellow birders,

I don’t often post but this morning from 11/18/19 aprx 8:30-11:30am a Brant was on the grassy field at ITD 3311 W. State St. Boise. We saw it on the field Behind the main building between the bridge design building and the sign shop building. At the back of the grassy field is an empty field with 2 small gravel piles on the edge. This is close to the Simplot white water area. Here r a few photos of the Brant. If I have misidentified it please let me know. It was/is with a flock of Canada geese. They did fly at about 11:30am but may be back tomorrow? Thx to my husband’s coworker Tony and also Tom M.
