Re: Really? RE: [IBLE] Florida Scrub Jay in Eagle

I think you have a decent shot at seeing it if you have an hour or so to wait it out. It has a pattern of flying out to the west and back to the fire station.
If anyone comes into town you should check out tha male Anna’s Hummingbird at Dry Creek Cemetery as well. You’ll see it and hear it singing at the east entrance on dead snags in the hollow at the trailhead parking entrance.

I saw the Florida Scrub Jay this afternoon at about 3:30.  It was in the bushes just west of the Eagle Fire Station on S Plaza Drive.  The bird moved slightly north into trees at the intersection of S Plaza Drive and E State St for better views.

Thanks to others for posting info on this bird’s location.

Re: Really? RE: [IBLE] Florida Scrub Jay in Eagle

I was confused, but ebird confirms California Scrub Jay. In the brief
reading I’ve done, the Woodhouse’s and California we’re split a few years
ago.

Whichever it is, it’s strikingly beautiful, and I’m going to try for it
Sunday.

Re: Really? RE: [IBLE] Florida Scrub Jay in Eagle

Kathy Lopez has a good pic as does Jon Curd with the distinctive blue collar for the California scrub Jay on today’s eBird sightings.

Re: Really? RE: [IBLE] Florida Scrub Jay in Eagle

It is a California Scrub-Jay. This will be the third year that one has been reported in Eagle. There are photos in eBird. It’s not a Woodhouse’s.

Subject: [IBLE] Florida Scrub Jay in Eagle

I saw the Florida Scrub Jay this afternoon at about 3:30.  It was in the bushes just west of the Eagle Fire Station on S Plaza Drive.  The bird moved slightly north into trees at the intersection of S Plaza Drive and E State St for better views.

Thanks to others for posting info on this bird’s location.

Cheers, Marty Marzinelli

Really? RE: [IBLE] Florida Scrub Jay in Eagle

Has the Woodhouse’s Scrub-Jay (present in Idaho) been ruled out somehow? The e-Bird ‘rare bird’ notification says the people finding the bird have it listed as the “California Scrub-Jay”. Now, this email says the “Florida Scrub-Jay”. Does anyone know if an actual distinction has been made about this bird, and why it’s not being reported as the Woodhouse’s Scrub-Jay? Just wondering…thx Jonathan, HSB

[IBLE] All are Here

Have been birding between bands of storms pushing through. I was hoping that the thunderstorms would force migrants to stop over & I wasn’t disappointed. Finally, saw a spring W Tanager. A female was working through our aspen trees & I was glad enough to see her. But, then a near-scarlet red headed male popped up and the two of them flew to the top of a nearby pine. They both allowed for an extended & satisfying observation before flying off together into nearby cottonwoods.

My most consistent feeder birds are now Black-headed Grosbeaks & Lazuli Buntings. Just a bit ago, I had 6 Grosbeaks & 4 Buntings at the feeder, all at once. This is the first year, in our 31 at this location, to have such regular feeder visits by the Lazulis. Yellow Warblers are abundant & Wilson’s are coming in, too. A great day!

[IBLE] Re: Bird quiz

Perfect job, Tom! That 14th Lazuli was tricky. I see that someone else got the two extra birds correct as well: a Bullocks Oriole & a female House Sparrow, yes.

The bird on the left side of the photo, next to a Lazuli, looks like a House Sparrow. The bird hiding behind the shepherd’s crook looks like a Bullock’s Oriole. I found the 14, but I’m counting one that is just a patch of blue behind some leaves, to the left of the one feeder and to the right of the Hummingbird feeder.
Gee, and I was pleased that a single male Lazuli has been coming in to my feeder. 😉

[IBLE] Photo Quiz

A couple days ago, I had a big influx of Lazuli Buntings to my feeders. In a picture I snapped, I caught 14 of them in one shot. Below is the picture. Can you find them all? Quiz: What are the two birds in the photo that aren’t Lazuli Buntings? ? Just for fun… we’ll see who gets it right first… Jonathan, Horseshoe Bend
