Re: Rufous Hummingbirds
My place in Valley Co. near Cascade has above average #’s of Rufous this year, compared to previous years. Agressive buggers towards the Colliope’s.
Cheers, Rich
Re: Rufous Hummingbirds
Hi Bill! Yes, have been watching for Rufous posts from you, as know their fall migration shows about a month earlier at your place than mine. Thinking fall Rufous Hummingbird migration has, indeed, started. Just had a juvenile Rufous appear at the feeder about 15 min ago. Wonder if the extreme dry conditions & wildfires in BC & Alberta are pushing them southward a bit earlier?

Re: Rufous Hummingbirds
I’m watching for Rufous, thought I had one yesterday.
I get the first returning Rufous about now most years, Fall Migration harbinger. Loads of hummers at feeders.

As my my undergrad ornithologist professor used to teach…”Birds have wings. So, all bets are off. They can go anywhere they want. Always be watching for that rarity!”

I haven’t found the acronyms on there yet. Do I need to subscribe first?

Re: Rufous Hummingbirds
I had a male rufous hummer in my yard in Caldwell last evening- hitting salvia blooms. And it does seem really early for southbound migration. But like Brian said- exciting to witness!
