I’ve been seeing Cedar Waxwings all year. I found an area where they nested and I see one to five about 5 out of 7 days. But I would love it if a large flock would come visit. 😉

Definitely have more black chinned hummers, including juvies, at the
feeders. Have identified one female rufous.
Bullocks orioles have disappeared.
Still hearing occassional lazuli buntings in the foothills above us.
Big flock of cedar waxwings came in yesterday. Hitting the viburnum
berries fairly heavy.
Heard nuthatches here and in town today.
Also hearing what I think are downy woodpecker calls but no visual.
And finally – drum roll – saw a juvenile swainson on the canal this
morning. After an unusual summer of no buteos – this was a relief.

Admitting that data is not my thing, I do read and appreciate your
attention to it. I generally learn something new and interesting and have
even shared with birding buddies from other states because they are
interested in data. So thanks, Larry and others who do collect and organize
data, including historical information and sharing it with us.

IBRC, IBLE, historians, eBirders, other birders, non-listers, et al.,

I haven’t surfed on the IBRC web site to determine whether this kind of information is included therein, but it seems to me there should be inclusion of “historical perspective” like this, re: DATA!! showing how far we’ve come in documenting the occurrence of birds in Idaho (eBird is now showing that 433 species have occurred in the state).

Attached is one of Chuck Trost’s state year lists, this one for 1993, that he kindly gave me permission to copy and share. And maybe there are older checklists out there somewhere in someone’s library or on their computer that might also be of interest to us ?

Until fall migration ramps up, my mind is wandering beyond our backyard bird feeders…. eh?
