Yesterday we had our first ever Ever yard bird Swainson’s Thrush, and this is for any and every yard we’ve owned in the western U.S., in five western states including Alaska.
Can you imagine our faces when we first heard our SWTH singing?
And can you imagine how useless we were for the rest of the day, and that we’re mostly useless today?!! eyiyi

But, Susan, in keeping with Tom’s notion, several of the birds in your hood would be “year birds” for us, so we should send you our address too….
We need more “hammers” 😉

Just saw it near and across from Eagle Fire Station No. 1 as others have
reported on ebird. Four other birders besides my friend and I. 1418-1428.

Hey Carl, yuge congrats! gotta say this makes me LOL thinking back 15 yrs or so about intensely serious listers in S Texas arguing about the precise location of a bird seen (“sighted” in birding lingo) on the Lower Rio Grande, i.e., “was the bird on this side of the middle of the river or was it on the Mexican half of the river?” and discussion/debate would ensue for hours and hours, perhaps days, with many MANY posts to texbirds, on and on. anon!! and if the bird CROSSED The River, then why oh why can’t I count it on both my Mexican and U.S. lists regardless of where I’m standing?” again, LOL

Yes, the bird has been hanging out in the area since I arrived just after 11:00a this morning. First flew across State St and perched on a high power pole for awhile, then flew back toward the fire station. A bit later, I was joined by another birder, Janet Phillips, and we observed the bird in the trees around the fire station, and then perched up on the fire station roof for quite a while. It’s definitely hanging around this very specific spot in Eagle, so it should be easy for anyone to find. Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone… Thx again, Jason. Jonathan

If anyone comes into town you should check out tha male Anna’s Hummingbird at Dry Creek Cemetery as well. You’ll see it and hear it singing at the east entrance on dead snags in the hollow at the trailhead parking entrance.

I saw the Florida Scrub Jay this afternoon at about 3:30. It was in the bushes just west of the Eagle Fire Station on S Plaza Drive. The bird moved slightly north into trees at the intersection of S Plaza Drive and E State St for better views.

Yesterday I reported that I had seen a Florida Scrub Jay (FLSJ) in Eagle, but that was inaccurate. I had seen a California Scrub Jay (CASJ), as recently reported by several other people.

I got a good look at the bird yesterday and I also got some OK photos of it. When I got home, I confirmed to myself it was the CASJ. However, I wanted to compare it to other scrub jays characteristics (such as the FLSJ) as a learning exercise; so I looked up the details of web. When done, I went and posted to IBLE and instead on identifying the bird I saw/confirmed, for some reason I inadvertently said I had seen the FLSJ…oops! My apologies for misnaming the bird and any constermation it may have caused.

It error is easily made between all three jays, including the Mexican Jay.  I found myself doing just that several times.  Especially with a quick look in the bird books.  Something we all have done at one time or another, and ya, I continue doin it.

I saw the Florida Scrub Jay this afternoon at about 3:30. It was in the bushes just west of the Eagle Fire Station on S Plaza Drive. The bird moved slightly north into trees at the intersection of S Plaza Drive and E State St for better views.

I think you have a decent shot at seeing it if you have an hour or so to wait it out. It has a pattern of flying out to the west and back to the fire station. 
If anyone comes into town you should check out tha male Anna’s Hummingbird at Dry Creek Cemetery as well. You’ll see it and hear it singing at the east entrance on dead snags in the hollow at the trailhead parking entrance.
