This is the first day I’ve seen the Cooper’s Hawk young out with their
parents. The young are calling for food, and the parents deliver. How lucky
to listen and watch from my backyard.

Hi birders,
Yesterday Amy Bechtel and I walked the whole trail at Gold Fork (off Hwy 21 near mile marker 59). There is still extensive fire damage following from the 2016 fires in this area, which has created a lot of relatively open areas along the trail. As a result, there is a huge proliferation of wild flowers growing there of many colours and varieties, including geranium species, penstemon, larkspur, mallow, and  Indian paintbrush, to name a few. For birds, it was a good day for woodpecker species, with the burnt areas good for Three-toed and Black-backed woodpeckers. We also had excellent views of a pair of MacGillivray’s Warblers which we watched for several minutes, calling from the low growth along one of the creeks there.
