yikes, snow!!!

we had hummers in the snow one year in NM, and they had a tough time navigating, kept dropping with the snow flakes as they gently fell, like their navigational / guidance / system was based on falling snow flakes as opposed to fixed objects like the ground or vegetation, all survived just fine, but kind of funny to watch……..

Subject: [IBLE] Rufous Hummer in Teton Valley

I saw the first Rufous Hummingbird of the season at my feeder today. A bright, flashy male. Bird song has certainly decreased recently. Western Tanagers, Black-headed Grosbeaks, and Bullock’s Orioles are still hitting the feeders hard in the neighborhood. As well as the Calliope and Broad-tailed hummingbirds.

I did hear one Western Wood-Peewee near the creek also today. Bert Raynes in Jackson claims that is always the true start of summer. However, tonight it is snowing again.
