On our way back from biking, Susan spotted a swan out in the middle of
Veteran’s Pond. It was quite large, with a straight neck and a gray tinge to
its feathers. I initially thought a Trumpeter because there was no “knob” on
its bill like a Mute. But the bill had a lot of orange to it, and Sibley
seems to point toward Mute. I’d be interested to hear what others think once
they’ve seen it. It definitely got me excited when I thought it was a
Trumpeter.
