Broad-winged Hawk
Hi all, I just had a Broad-winged Hawk fly over my house here in Blaine County. It may be time that a few start trickling through.

Finches and redwng blackbirds in Sugar City
I saw the first redwing blackbirds on Mon, April 6th. House finches showed up on Wed, April 8th. The first gold finches arrived on Sat, April 11.
The starling that comes back each year started nesting on April 4th. And she spent time looking for something in my feeder, and not finding anything to her liking, she just sat there and kept the sparrows and junkos away.
Re: Island Park Arrival
Hi, Cliff (and all):
New faces at our back yard feeders this last week have been a flock of Evening Grosbeaks. I realize they also winter here, but seem to be usually less visible through the winter, at least in our back yard.

Island Park Arrival
We’ve been getting an inch or two of snow pretty much every day for the last week and a half which seems to be slowing snow melt and the advance of spring. But the past two days have been free of snow and yesterday morning I heard the first Robins of the year. Today I got a good look at one. There are patches of bare ground under trees but we still have 2-3 feet of snow. Some years the Robins show up then leave again, only to return later. I assume that’s because they got here too early and weren’t able to feed in the deep snow. But this year they seem to be staying so spring can’t be far off. I’m ready for it.
