Another Blackpoll in SW Idaho – this time found by Robert Mortensen and Jason Talbot at Avimor (Spring Valley trail) this morning. They also mentioned an intriguing mystery/unid’d warbler (I’ll let them weigh in as time allows) but that one flew over the hill & is torturing them. They’re still seeing the Blackpoll as of a few minutes ago …

Re: W. Tanager
Also in the Pocatello area: saw my first Tanager of the year a few days ago at Edson Fichter Nature Area, then today at Cherry Springs. On my way home from Cherry Springs, one flew right in front of my car a few blocks north of the University!

Re: Blue Jay
Sweet! Do you think they might be breeding in the area this year?

RL strikes again!
Magnolia Warbler @ Black’s Ck.
Hey ible-land, RL here.
Been suggested to me that I put out some directions to aid others in finding the ad. male Magnolia Warbler I just reported on ebird.
Here goes. It was associating with a very small, very active and very loose flock of Wilsons’ and Yellows; whole bunch moving west to east in the farthest trees. This would be as you stand by the parking area/toilet facility up there on Kuna-Mora Rd. looking straight out or roughly NE. I came across it about a 1/4 the distance along in those far trees from the west end and followed it eastward until it disappeared in the heavy willows on the east end.
He was magnificent looking, just in the primest of prime condition. Got his id right off, then, as you can see in my ebird notes, I noted that he could be almost called a yellow-bellied YRWA. Some color patterns so similar in some way between this bird and parts of both Myrtle and Audubon YRWA’s.
I don’t know if either Black’s Ck. I-84 off ramps are open yet, re-construction of the overpass bridges been going on this past two or more months. So I came down Kuna-Mora from the west from Pleasant Valley.

Finally!
Was hoping our snow yest & rain last night would give some migrants pause. And wasn’t disappointed. Finally, located a male W Tanager at the top of one of our yard cottonwoods.
The Evening Grosbeaks returned in good numbers this AM, as well. Counted a high of 15. Black-headed Grosbeaks are numbering 17+, with 5 male & 2 female Lazuli Buntings coming to the feeders at once. Yellow Warblers are numerous in the woods.
