Just heard my first Townsend’s Solitaire of the season. They’ll winter along the Snake River in the Riparian area. Usually will stake out a Rocky Mtn Juniper that has good berries on it & defend from the Robins that come in, as well.
Just a handful of Yellow-rumped Warblers coming through. See maybe 2-3 a day working through the cottonwoods. A few White-crowned Sparrows & Juncos about. Otherwise, pretty quiet. Fall color is starting to peak, but a bit spotty this season.
There was American Golden Plover on the mudflat at Blacks Creek in Ada County this morning. It was near the Black-bellied Plover that has been there for several days. The AMGP flew in and stayed for about 15 minutes before both plovers flew off together.
The ponds are finally reopened again after being closed for several years. The water is slowly filling the pond. Unfortunately many of the trees were taken out by the company that pulled gravel out of the pond area.
The ponds are on Hwy 20/26, Parma exit (exit 26) off I84. The bridge over the freeway (exit 26) has been damaged so the easiest way to get to Hwy 20/26 is go to exit 25. You can either backtrack to exit 26 (ramps are open) or go across the freeway and down the hill to Farmeay Road. Turn left and then turn right onto Hwy 20/26.
I’ve had evening grosbeak at several locations in Eagle yesterday and today including the trees near the eagle bike park and the trees in front of Seven Oaks school. Having lived here 7 years this is my first encounter with the evening grosbeak and it’s cool to see them and hear them locally
Fyi, for those not watching the Oregon birding scene. Being seen along the Columbia river in Portland… I’d love to go, if I didn’t have obligations every day from now until next Tuesday!
