I’d suggest a variation on Bewick’s Wren – some of the notes have a Song Sparrow-like quality but, though I don’t hear this from all individuals, I have heard Bewick’s give those repetitive phrases.

I tried playing your recording with Merlin’s SoundID turned on and the same with BirdNET. Merlin came up with gray catbird.

I am here in Wisconsin where the Cardinals sing regularly. It does sound like a Northern Cardinal, but there is something missing. I have listened to this a number of times and wonder what birds out west are singing partial songs for their offspring.
