Shorebird ID help

Hi all,  We were out at Market Lake WMA north of Idaho Falls back on 8-16 and saw a fair number of shorebirds.  I am not as familiar with them in their fall plumage so was hoping for some help IDing several we took pictures of.  These two birds were moving together when we observed them.  The lighter one was a bit smaller.  The plumages look similar to me, kind of like a light and dark morph raptor but of course they are shorebirds.  Can you guys help with their IDs, are they an adult and juvenile or two separate species.

Thanks,

Why I watch birds

This is from Lake Lowell, by the dam, yesterday. A mixed flock of Western and Clark grebes. Quite a few “youngsters”, a couple of which were riding on their mom’s back. I have
seen the water walking display in the past, but this is the first time I could capture it. It just makes me smile and that is good enough reason to put in the effort.

Hope you all find something to smile about, as well.
