Hi,
On my way home from work a goose stood out among a couple dozen of Canada Geese. Being a relative novice birder, I thought I’d ask for assistance here. I’m personally leaning towards juvenile Ross’ Goose because of the short bill and light plumage. Any help appreciated. Please see attached, thanks.
I saw the bird just north of Friendship bridge, just across from Boise State.

I suspect this photo is a juvenile snow goose. The head to more oval than
round and the bill looks too large to me. Ross’s goose is about the size
of a mallard duck. It’s hard to judge size from this photo however..
Sibley notes that hybrids of snow and Ross’s goose are also possible.

For two years I’ve heard those sounds repeated while walking or biking the
Greenbelt. I suspect it’s meant to be a deterrent to birds using the
commercial building for perching or nesting. The location where I’ve heard
it is the North side of the river heading west just before going under
Fairview Avenue.

There is a building on the north side of the river that plays bird distress
calls and bird predator calls, like a bald eagle, on a loop. I assume it
is an attempt to keep birds from roosting or even landing on the facility.
Don’t know what the building is.

Today I for a Red Phalarope in Basic Plumage. It is located at what is called the Eames Substation. It is labeled as such on e-bird. To get there you would head North on Lindsey Blvd in Idaho Falls. Continue on this road past the Dog Park and finally turn right just past the Idahoan potato processing plant. It has been feeding on midges just above the diversion dam.

A young male VERMILION FLYCATCHER was reported to eBird, today, from the
Kingfisher Trail at Deer Flat NWR in Canyon County. All the currently
available information (including photos) is contained in this eBird
checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S61006099.
There is one previous sight record for Idaho (January 2005 near Bonners
Ferry), which the IBRC found not acceptable. This will likely become the
first fully-documented and IBRC-endorsed record for Idaho (pending
acceptance).
Simply passing along this information. Additional details are likely to
appear on Facebook (group: Idaho Bird Sightings and Discussion), and
hopefully here on IBLE.

On our way back from biking, Susan spotted a swan out in the middle of
Veteran’s Pond. It was quite large, with a straight neck and a gray tinge to
its feathers. I initially thought a Trumpeter because there was no “knob” on
its bill like a Mute. But the bill had a lot of orange to it, and Sibley
seems to point toward Mute. I’d be interested to hear what others think once
they’ve seen it. It definitely got me excited when I thought it was a
Trumpeter.
