Good Evening

I observed and photographed a Brant at Dover Bay near Sandpoint, Idaho at 3pm this afternoon. The bird was in a small field with Canada Geese very close to the parking lot of the Balto Dog Park. The park is searchable on google maps.

As far as I am aware, none of us looking today found the Boise Brant. But
the Ovenbird continues!

I didn’t see any posts on the Brant so I thought I’d post this update.
Five or six of us l looked for the Brant all day yesterday but did not
find it. Hopefully it just found somewhere else to forage yesterday and
will be relocated (I know there are people looking today). If it turns
up let us know. Good luck…

reminds me that ebirders, er, elisters and ereviewers, made our place in GJ a hotspot without asking us, like i said, kind of creepy ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

btw, OVEN was in our GJ backyard for six days only, 22-27 Sep 2012, had no disturbances per se, but

maybe we should have offered mealworms, eh? 😉

Yes, I hesitated to create one in that case because: 1) I never anticipated the bird to stick around for more than a day or two, 2) I was just too busy to think hard about it, and 3) I was hesitant to create a hot spot for a private home and especially without input from the owners/residents (and I hadn’t talked to them about it due to #s 1 and 2). I’m guessing that bird is likely to move on as the weather changes in the next week, but we will see.

Being a data nerd, I had to peek at ebird bar charts for N, SE, and SW Idaho, 10 counties each area, and they appear interestingly / slightly different…

N – doesn’t look rare during Sept-Apr

SE – doesn’t look rare mid-Oct thru mid-Mar

SW – doesn’t look rare Oct-Nov, Dec-Jan, with a brief “rare” window during interface of Nov-Dec

Heidi, same idea when we had OVEN at our place in GJ 2012, already a hotspot because of our LAGO in 2007

If Carl really wants one, I’m okay with that for the Ovenbird but would prefer not, since hotspots show up any time someone browses the hotspot map….. I don’t mind birders coming for the ovenbird but don’t necessarily want people stopping by our house randomly until the end of time 🙂

I think the difference here is private property or not
