Spring in Boise

I’ve had a Sharpie taking a Eurasian Collared Dove about twice a week since mid-Jan. Keep finding fresh feather piles on the place. Sure has displaced the doves. Never see more than a couple at a time now, instead of the 8-10 that were showing up, at the feeder, by Dec & January. Not complaining, glad the Sharp-shinned has kept the numbers of this non-native in check.

Spring Migration
Today, have had my first of yr: Sandhill Cranes & Tundra Swans coming overhead. Along the Snake River: Bald Eagle on nest, Hooded Merganser prs, numerous Common Mergansers, Canada Geese prs, Wood Duck prs & Mallards. American Goldfinches in good numbers at the feeder, along with House Finches, DE Juncos & BC Chickadees.

Adults also have black belly patches in breeding plumage. If the
black was limited it’s probably n the process of molting into
alternate plumage.
