I also saw it last Saturday with my mother and a couple other birders. I saw it at about 8:30. When I left between 10:30 – 11, one of the owls was still there.

I was wondering if the great gray owl was still in the location it has been in? I live pretty far away and I am considering coming to see. I am a respectful birder & don’t get too close or bother the birds. Anyway, I thought I would ask before I make the long drive. 🙂 Thank you in advance.

Cool. We saw an adult there during the Christmas Bird Count so it must be part of its winter territory.

Northern Goshawk at Canyon Hill Cemetery
In case anyone’s interested, I found a Northern Goshawk at the north end of Canyon Hill Cemetery this morning. It was a fairly large, bulky, gray hawk with some black facial markings. It had broad, rounded wings. I saw it fly into the middle of a pine tree. Then I got closer and it flushed, flying to the northeast. I didn’t see it after that.

Found along the road side yesterday, throat appeared torn, maybe a dropped raptor kill?
Color on face, gray legs, and length of beak has us guessing some kind of grouse or partridge – there are game and exotic bird breeding fanciers not far from the site.
