Agree that it looks more like a nuthatch with that upturned appearance to the bill. Might be seeing its reflection in the glass and think its attacking a rival. Alternatively it may think the reflections in the glass look like a potential nesting site. Nuthatches are cavity nesters.

The bill is too long for Downy Woodpecker too. I like Red-breasted Nuthatch.

I was there today also about noon. Mostly looking for sparrows but I did check out the shore birds and did not see a Red Knot or anything like one.

Cheryl Huizinga and I scoped the far sandbars pretty hard and long but didn’t see the knot. If its still there it may be further up the tules than we could see. Lots of other good birds tho.
