Despite a temperature of 100° at 5 PM this afternoon, I was pleased to find this bird on my way home from Oregon. Thanks to everybody for their reports!
We observed two there at 1:45 this afternoon. One singing from a sunflower perch; the other flying into the cornfield (on a nest, perhaps?) at one point both birds were perched on the sunflower together. Someone has marked the viewing spot with a cairn on Big Willow Road.
Still there at 11:00 am on the 9th. Quite a crowd there to view this rarity. He picked out a particular sunflower in the middle of the field as his perch. Flies back and forth from this perch.
Well, the “different” summer season continues. Just had an adult male Rose-breasted Grosbeak come into the feeder. Looked out kitchen window & there it was! “Willed” it to stay put, while I grabbed the camera. Looked back at my records & first yard sighting for one here was an adult male 8/29/2017. Have seen only occasionally in summer since.
Wow … I guess we were to high birding with Terry yesterday at the Mores Mountain Trail 🙂

There is a dickcissel on Big Willow Road. My Ebird checklist is at the spot where the bird is being seen.
The bird is actively singing from the top of sunflowers. It’s about 50-60 feet or so from the road.

Want to point out to folks that when setting location on this road for ebird checklists, it comes up Bluf Rd, which it isn’t. Street signage is clearly marked Big Willow Rd, running from its intersection with Bluff Rd east to Sucker Creek Rd.
I don’t know of a solution for that mapping problem but following the pin will find the location where the bird is actively singing and possibly nesting; playback I would think should be discouraged.
