Thanks for starting this thread, Larry. I’ve birded Belize on several occasions & visited the Belize Zoo founded by Sharon Matola. Bruce Barcott authored a non-fiction book about Sharon’s environmental attempt to preserve the “Last Flight of the Scarlet Macaw”, the book’s title. I won’t give the spoiler alert.

Others are more field guide oriented: my grandmother’s “Audubon Guide All Birds of East & Central North America” by Richard Pough 1953 ed, for sentimental reasons. Although, it does have interesting info on Eskimo Curlew, Ivory-billed WP & Kirtland’s Warbler. Also, a Christmas gift from my parents the yr I got my BS in Wildlife Biology: the 2 vol “The Bird Life of Texas” by Oberholser & illustrations by Louis Agassiz Fuertes. Packed with great bird biology info from a time when field studies were, indeed, hands-on.

Not, a bird oriented book but I also enjoy books about the Rocky Mt fur-trapper era. And an Idahoan, Vardis Fisher, who wrote the popular “Mountain Man”, also wrote a now out-of-print book “Pemmican” about the Canadian Rockies fur-trapper era when North West trappers were competing with Hudson Bay trappers. A great read & can sometimes locate on secondary market.
