We were just heading out when a Chukar flew into our yard at about 9.30 am. We got back about 12 and it is still there. It has been picking at grass seed stems (we have not yet mowed this year), and items on the ground. The bird is very tame, so we wondered if it could be an escape?
Anyone have any ideas, or if we need to do anything for it?
I guess it may fly out again when it is ready to leave.
FOY hummingbird! Location, Pocatello east bench. Just stopped snowing, temp 32°, 8PM and had our first hummer of 2026. Pretty sure it was a male calliope but the light was poor. Glad I put the feeders up early!
Came across a pair of American Pipits along the Snake River. Both were paler adults in breeding plumage with buffy-faint reddish breasts. Walking along river edge & bobbing when stopped. Been awhile since I’ve seen Pipits.
There was a Calliope photographed in Orofino on Apr 1st but I
don’t see any other accepted recrods this year.

SW Boise, no hummers yet. But last summer the black chinned stayed
well into mid Sept, the latest in my 5 yrs at this location.

My sister over Gig Harbor, WA way had arrival of
Rufous Hummingbirds around 2 wks ago. I put out nectar
feeder 10 days ago & no visitors, yet. The winds
haven’t helped, but hopefully getting past that now.
Curious, any ID birders seeing hummingbirds yet?
