Saw & heard first House Wren yest, along Snake River. In fact, just had one appear on edge of back deck, where I’m now relaxing! No Lazulis yet, nor hummingbirds, at my location.
The Common Loon was again at Silver Lake today, although I couldn’t find it on the way back (long ride). But at Pamela Baker Park, in Eagle, there was a Greater White-fronted Goose hanging out with some Canadians.
My ride was 21 miles, and I found 38 species, including a finale by a Bald Eagle as I was leaving Esther Simplot Park. He flew right towards me, did a loop over my head, and then headed for the river. Nice way to end a long ride.
Sorry to be so slow in reporting this, but there was an adult Common Loon at Silver Lake (Lake Harbor) at around 1 PM today. I saw a disturbance in the water and watched, expecting one of the “usual suspects,” when up popped the loon.
I also encountered my first BH Cowbird today, although I identified by sound because I didn’t see him.
Just had a breeding plumage male Yellow-rumped (Audubon’s variety) Warbler come in. He was fly-catching midges from one of the aspen trees. Didn’t stay around for long. Definitely, in a hurry…places to go & see!
Actually I’ve had a pair hanging out in my backyard in east Pocatello for the past three or so weeks. I assume they are nesting either in my yard or close by and have found a reliable source of food and water. Our neighborhood backs up to the ISU disc golf course where there has been a growing flock of chuckers since around 2020. Beautiful birds and fun to watch! I can’t imagine they belong to anyone. Headed out now to set up my hummingbird feeder.
We were just heading out when a Chukar flew into our yard at about 9.30 am. We got back about 12 and it is still there. It has been picking at grass seed stems (we have not yet mowed this year), and items on the ground. The bird is very tame, so we wondered if it could be an escape?
Anyone have any ideas, or if we need to do anything for it?
I guess it may fly out again when it is ready to leave.
