See if there’s a wildlife rehabber in the area. If not perhaps they could call a veterinarian and could be directed to the best place for it to go.

Sandhill Colt
Last night my neighbors found a several week old Sandhill Colt out in the road disoriented and no sign of parents. They took it home and thought more about and decided to take it back where they found it to release, but there were two roaming mountain lions there, so it’s back home.
Any suggestions who they could call for placement?

Thanks, Louisa. I hope the best for the wee gnatcatchers. Although their nest is anchored in the trunk of a sturdy sagebrush, it is right next to the trail and will see comings and goings on a human scale

Anyone familiar with blue-gray gnatcatchers? There is a nesting pair of the tiny, energetic wonders near the trailhead of the Daniels Creek trailhead up Bogus Basin Road above Boise. I ask because the range maps show blue-gray gnatcatchers typically breeding well to the south of us.

Well, appears the female Broad-tailed Hummingbird was just passing through. Last time I saw her was this past Sunday. But, there’s a multitude of Black-chinneds about. I fill an 8 oz feeder every evening & by next evening, ready to refill.
Also, turned on a 360° rotating sprinkler near some lilac bushes &, with this current heat dome that’s found us, the birds are loving it! Robins, Cedar Waxwings, Yellow Warblers, BC Chickadees, RB Nuthatches, BH Grosbeaks…all seem to relish bathing in the artificial rain. May go stand in it myself, before the day’s over!

Hey Bill,
Interesting about your “brown” Black-chinned. I saw one quite similar. Had to back up from feeder & look very closely through binocs to make sure it was, indeed, a male Black-chinned. I finally decided it just hadn’t fully molted yet.

If there’s a male Broad-tailed around you’ll be able to hear the
wing trill. Keep your ears open…

Some of the BC, sorry, I see almost look brown. New species I can count or just premolt. Jay?
Two 4 cup feeders up and emptied every day or or so, say 2.5 life. Ready for hoard but need to buy more sugar.
