Green-backed Rufous

Had a juv male hummingbird visit feeder today, just once. Was there for about 3 min. A striking rufous color with an obvious green back. Sibley Birds states up to 5% Rufous will have a green back. Given the extraordinary number of migrating Rufous we’re seeing in E ID along Snake River corridor & fact that I’ve never seen an Allen’s on our place, sticking with a Green-backed Rufous.

Going by nectar consumption looks like we’ve gone from a high of 30 diff’t hummers/day, now down to ~16. Today, Black-chinned, Rufous & Calliope. Vast majority of all types are juvs. In past, our hummer numbers start to drop after 1st WK of Sept. I keep feeder up til first of Oct, to help out stragglers.
