Thanks, I didn’t even think of goldfinch. And more than a few Lesser Goldfinches have visited my fountain in recent weeks.

Looks like all the Lesser Goldfinches that swarm my yard each day. Beak is more finch-like than either a warbler or a kinglet.

Coincidentally I heard the first singing Ruby-crowned Kinglet in
my yard this morning in Island Park. Temps are headed for the 60s
and the snow is melting fast. Feels like spring.

That is such good news!!!
I made nectar yesterday and late last night put out 2 feeders for the hummingbirds.
I got my FOY YEWA on 4.27 at the island while checking in on the OSPR nest. I was at the bridge when the YEWA flew right past me. What a welcoming sight to see. Tell the BCHU I’ve got feeders out and send them my way!

Hummers Back
First Black-Chinned female showed up Wed. afternoon and now lots of both BC and Calliope. Feeder went up Tuesday before front and warmth arrived.

That looks like a lesser goldfinch. They are in small flocks on the canals here right now. We have RC kinglets in winter and they are so jumpy, only landing once in a while on our suet feeders. They have a distinct eyering, too.

Happy to report the first male made it here at 8:45 this a.m. Sort of within the week of first arrivals in my notes, so not necessarily tardy, but if you thought you felt an earthquake right around then, that was me jumping up and down for joy.

Ruby-crowned Kinglet?
This bird visited my backyard fountain an hour ago. Lots of orange on breast, distinctive wing bars, and a hint of brown on throat, with small blackish spots on top of head. I first thought “warbler,” but now I think kinglet. Any thoughts?
