Common (Eurasian Green-winged) Teal in Caldwell

For those not on eBird or Facebook, yesterday afternoon Carter picked out what looks good for a male Common Teal – Eurasian version of Green-winged – in Caldwell off exit 26.  Seen with a group of Green-winged in the canal off Green Rd … we were able to locate it today & here’s our eBird checklist for location details (will add distant digiscope pics soon): eBird Checklist – 5 Mar 2022 – 22241 Green Road, Caldwell, Idaho, US (43.694, -116.697) – 8 species (+2 other taxa)

Re: Lew Ulrey

BTW, the obituary says he played “Taps” at the race track. If he did, it would probably bring everybody down, since Taps is played at military funerals (and brings me to tears every time I hear it). When I talked to Lew about his playing
at the track, he was playing the usual “First Call.”

Just thought I’d offer a correction.

Re: Lew Ulrey

Tom – thanks for remembering Lew and directing us to his obituary, which mentions his involvement in birding and Golden Eagle Audubon. I remember birding with Lew on the Christmas Bird Count in Boise, umpteen years ago.- Rattlesnake can provide exact years 🙂

His Flckr page is out there which shows his love of birds and skills in capturing them – wonderful bird photos. What better way to remember Lew!
