I ve had same results some really way off. Even for me I can tell they are totally off.

Birding Scope setup for Sale
A little over a year ago I purchased new from Birdwatching.com a birding scope and associated accessories but I haven’t used it as much as I anticipated. So I’m selling it and thought someone here might be looking. From my understanding this scope is thought to be one of the best for birding in the world (ranked number one for example by Audubon in top-of-the-line, https://www.audubon.org/news/top-line) . Here’s the setup:
1. Kowa TSN-883 88mm Prominar Pure Fluorite Angled Spotting Scope with the Kowa TE-11WZ 25-60x Wide Angle Zoom Eyepiece
2. An always on Kowa Carry Case CNW-11
3. Induro Tripod CLT204 No. 2 Stealth Carbon Fiber Tripod, 4 Sections, including padded carrying case
4. Manfrotto Micro Fluid Head 128RC
5. Meopta MeoPix Uni 2 Smartphone Digiscoping Adapter for smartphone
I’m asking $3,000 for it all, which by my calculations, with sales taxes savings, is about $600 less than the retail price today. As I said I’ve used it very little so everything is in like new condition.
Contact me for more information, if you’ve never owned a scope the different parts of the tripod apparatus can be confusing, I know it was for me, so I can send more specific details about all that.

Re: Broad-winged Hawk / Fremont County
Thanks Mark. I guess it makes sense for them to take advantage of Salmon Flies, especially considering their size. If they’re big enough to attract Swainson’s Hawks (and an occasional Red-tailed) they’re an even bigger meal for a Broad-winged.

Re: fledged chickadees
Watching any birds interact with their young is special to me too. I think Chickadees are fun to watch whatever they’re doing. Cute little busy birds.

Re: Yellow warbler at suet feeder
In Nampa, some winters, Ive had yellow rumped warblers hit my suet. But not witnessed every winter?

Re: Yellow warbler at suet feeder
Interesting. It is possible it is an orange-crowned. I have yet to get binoculars on it and it is always back side to.

Yellow warbler at suet feeder
I agree with getting false readings from Merlin but it is still a wonderful tool.
Has anyone had a yellow warbler feed off of a suet feeder? I don’t normally keep the feeder out this time of year but because of the cold and wet spring I decided to leave it out. I have had Downy,Hairy, flickers and a Pileated woodpecker, a family of Red-breasted Nuthatches, chickadees and to my surprise what appears to be a Yellow Warbler. The first time I have ever seen one on a suet feeder. Just wondering if this is normal or abnormal behavior.

We see orange-crowned warblers occasionally at the suet feeder.

Re: Merlin Bird Sound Identification
I was standing by the Boise River, trying to figure out whether there were more than 2 kinds of swallows flying above me, using the Sound ID on Merlin. A friend walked up behind me and spoke, and Merlin said it had just heard a Great Horned
Owl! No, it ain’t perfect.

Re: Merlin Bird Sound Identification
I agree whole-heartedly with Jason, but I would go even further. For eBirding and other purposes, don’t report ANY species based solely on the output of Merlin. When installing the app, the very first thing the user sees is a disclaimer stating that the species listed by Merlin Sound ID are ONLY suggestions, to be independently verified by the user. It is a great tool for learning and reinforcing bird songs and calls, but the provided IDs should never be taken as infallible, even for common species. One of the fastest ways to get your eBird entries marked “unconfirmed” by your local eBird reviewer is to enter comments to the effect of “identified by Merlin”.
Thanks, Jason, for bringing it up.
Good Birding,
