Great thread. Never thought I’d be lucky enough to have Bewicks wrens in
my hood but here they are. Yes, the song variation keeps throwing me, such
virtuosos!
And I am curious about the continuous singing. This has been going on for a
month. When these guys hook up, does it stop? Typically with yellow
breasted chats in the same thicket, they halt their calls once they find a
mate. I don’t hear a peep from them after 7/1.
And where the heck have all the buteos gone? Plentiful gophers and mice
abound here, fabulous habitat, fully fledged Kestrels are hunting, but no
big guys in the air. Typically I can see 3 different fledglings of red
tails, at least one Swainson fledge, and last year the big bonus of a
Golden Eagle and young one. But now? Nada.
When Montour WMA opens up again 7/1, I hope to explore and see who’s
hunting whom.
