Catbird

This AM heard the distinct & repetitive call of a N Catbird. Finally, located it perched in a streamside willow. Allowed for a great observation. Numerous male Yellow Warblers have arrived & a handful of females. Sev male Lazuli Buntings are about. And, both male & female Black-chinned Hummingbirds are visiting the nectar feeder. One male has even started display flights! Most numerous are: American Goldfinch, House Finch & BC Chickadee. Male Red-winged Blackbirds are staking out cattails, no females yet. Definitely, more House Wrens than last season are arriving.

Raptor-wise: Red-tailed & Swainson’s Hawks are about. Osprey have also arrived. Both Sharp-shinned & at least one Cooper’s are in the area. Plus, American Kestrels are lessening the vole population. See an avg of 5 Bald Eagles daily. With warmer temps, good water flow & rapid greenup, next 10 days should be…prime!
