Assistance with Bear Lake Valley (IDBL) Christmas Bird Count

Idaho Birders,
Greetings!  My dad and I have managed the Bear Lake Valley CBC (IDBL) for many years.  We’ve slowly lost our support over the years (folks are getting older) and we need a little help covering one area this year.  The area we need help with includes the town of Ovid, Idaho and has varied habitats (ag lands, riparian, residential, forest).  Most roads will be snow packed and this part of the state is sparsely populated with Montpelier as the largest city within the CBC circle.  This CBC also includes parts of Bear Lake, several small towns with fascinating histories, and comes close to the border of Wyoming.
The Bear Lake Valley CBC will be on Wednesday, January 4.  If you are interested and are able to help, please contact me directly at 208-721-0884 by phone or text.  I will give you the details and more information on this CBC and how you can help.  Thank you!
Regards,
Micah Austin

Boise CBC Today – Look out for count week birds!

Hello birders!

Today was the Boise Christmas Bird Count, we recorded 97 species (pending anything unusual in data I don’t have yet) including count firsts Broad-winged Hawk and Gray Catbird. CBC count week goes through the 29th, anything we get during count week but not today contributes to our species total. If anyone wants to go looking for count week species, here’s some birds we missed today you could focus your energy on: Cackling Goose, Northern Pintail, Redhead, Canvasback, Rough-legged Hawk, Northern Saw-whet Owl, Hairy Woodpecker, Prairie Falcon, Marsh Wren, Varied Thrush, Red Crossbill, White-throated Sparrow, and Orange-crowned Warbler.
Any birds seen within the circle on the attached map count. Please email me if you see any of these species, or anything else unusual between now and Thursday.
Thank you and happy birding!
-Lucian

Re: White-headed Woodpecker, Williamson’s Sapsucker off Bogus Basin Rd

Hi Dean,

I’m not on FB but do follow R2R. Was just talking with Matthew (husband) about likely bad trails. Our hiker number is low so I’m thinking it will be pretty easy to provide back up plans (Rocky Canyon, 8th Street Rd, etc). It does look like most trails will be bad 🙁
Hope you are doing well and have a great holiday.  Maybe I’ll “see” you on Zoom mtg tomorrow night.
Thanks again Dean.
