Ted Trueblood yesterday

Hi birders,
Yesterday, Amy & I birded here, water level very low with substantial areas of mud.
Only duck species were Green-winged Teal (most numerous), Shoveler, and Mallard.
But most worthy of note was the presence of about 20 Long-billed Dowitchers, which is a trifle early so was flagged as a rarity for the time of year. The other big highlight was that in the fields by the approach road we counted at least 5 Short-eared Owls, certainly the most I’ve ever seen together.

we’ve tried for this NOMO at EISP several times, in fact missed it by mere minutes with RL on site recently

ebird daily alert error

Hey there ible… RL here.
For you ebird users.
Made an entry error that’s gotten on the daily ebird alert report.
Was not paying attention and accidentally logged HEGU x GLGU as a continuing bird sighting on my Ada Co. Landfill checklist for yesterday.
My continuing bird should actually have been logged as an  HEGU x GWGU.
There are photos posted of the bird on my 28 Dec. 20 checklist. Was not able to get any yesterday, bird too far for photos. I did originally send the photos to a few other, better “gullers” than I, who determined I had a cross bird before I did the original posting. At the time I’d not even considered a cross gull, been such a long time since having one in the area.
My apologies for my error and I hope the ebird Reviewers can remove said error.

Goshawk

Foiled again saw today canyon cemetery out in open top of tree.flew off before photo .I saw one in s.e.az.on nest only head showing  didn’t try get closer so sat on my stool hoping mate would come near no luck while sitting quietly this guy lands right in front pretty good second prize

I had this report below on 1/14 from a casual birding friend.  I ask everyone visiting the site to be respectful and it doesn’t hurt to remind others who are less cautious to do so as well.

“There were 5 or 6 photographers with humongous lenses and camo. That’s how I found the owls. … they were all very respectful of the owls except for one guy that was very pushy and just kept pursuing the owl as it flew from one place to another. He also would butt in front of others trying to take shots. They were all commenting about him and his lack of courtesy and what they felt was harassment of the owl. ”
