1. Increase the knowledge and understanding of the birds of Idaho

2. Review reports of unusual sightings from anywhere in the state and thereby provide a means by which sight records can gain universal acceptance as valuable scientific data

3. Determine the adequacy of any and all documentation for such reports

4. Maintain the official checklist of the birds of Idaho

5. Publish and maintain regular and periodic reports of its deliberations and decisions for the future use of students, teachers, authors, researchers and all others interested in distribution and movements of birds in Idaho

6. Maintain all primary reports submitted to the committee for consideration

7. Keep opinions received from outside experts utilized in its deliberations, as well as copies of any relevant literature

8. Establish standards of observation and reporting against which field observers may evaluate their techniques of identification
